Project Overview

Design and implement the comprehensive and scalable solution to meet the requirements for complex leave management and dynamic work scheduling policies in-coordination with time management devices/applications. The scope of the solution for one of the leading Canadian logistics company covered:

  • More than 7000 employees 
  • Multiple Unions having different labor agreements like working schedule/hours, leaves and overtime policies 
  • Full time and part time workforce 
  • Compliance with labor union and legislative laws


Workforce Management Complexity

  • Multiple work schedule like 37.5, 40, 42.5 with different weekly off. 
  • Actual work schedule entered and maintained basis business requirements in KRONOS 
  • Worker availability & forecast basis planned leaves maintained in Oracle fusion HCM 
  • 3rd Party application, ADP, used for payroll processing 
  • Additional payments basis Overtime, double time, shift premium 
  • Absence balance disbursement 
  • Flexible organization leave policy including Bank time which can be accumulated and later can be consumed or cashed later 
  • Compensatory off


High Level Solution Approach

Requirements were met using Oracle fusion HCM solution spanning across the areas of Human Resources, Absence and TL integrated with KRONOS and ADP. Following high level features or components were designed

  • Regular feed of actual time recorded in KRONOS to OTL for reporting time using REST API 
  • KRONOS absence feed to Oracle fusion absence to manage planned vs. actual 
  • Time Calculation rules and absence accrual/balance processing in Oracle fusion
  • Oracle data extract (HR/Time/Absence) to ADP for payroll processing 
  • Bank time applied through Oracle time and labor, balance displayed and managed in absence management using Fast formula’s 
  • Complex yet configurable and business rules driven formulas used in implementation 
  • Allowing user to record flexible number of leave hours using elapsed work schedule and advance absence configurations like advance mode This led to low maintenance of work schedule
